Imposter Syndrome though?
Hey, hey, Feliz Tuesday.
Well, it is Tuesday at the
time of this recording.
It is election day, y'all.
And I thought how fitting to put
this out into the world today.
Um, hoping for the best and acknowledging
that regardless of However, this vote
goes, however, this election goes, there's
still a lot of injustices, a lot of things
that need to change, um, in our humanity.
Now today's topic, imposter syndrome.
Today's episode, I'm actually going
to title it imposter syndrome though.
Imposter syndrome though.
Now, this word is a word that honestly.
Almost just gets on my last
damn nerves at this point.
I find this word to be
overused and abused.
If there was a word that could be abused,
it would be this one and another one.
But today I'm going to
focus on imposter syndrome.
I'm going to talk about what it is,
what it is not, and also some different
considerations and ways to look at this
as it pertains to your healing journey.
Now.
Before I dive into this topic, I just want
to say that the doors are officially open
for my mentorship program for therapists.
It is called the Empowered
Heartpreneur Program.
I am so excited to journey
and guide you for nine months.
Yes, nine months to birth a whole as new
ceo Helping you Heal and decolonize your
business and because of that it's also
going to be doing some we're going to
be doing some soul work y'all Uh, we're
gonna have three monthly calls two with
the focus on the theme and the pillar And
the reclaim method and one focused on co
working Or as I like to call co creation
so that we are really getting things done.
This is not just a Come be talked at
i'ma introduce a topic like no we are
Integrating in the moment along the way
with a focus each month And you also get
a quarterly 90 minute call with me as
well as a private whatsapp group for in
between coaching and support Modules,
workbooks, feedback, Google Docs, all the
things to make sure that you are ready
and that you are able to set up your
business and operate as a CEO from the
jump and without burning yourself out.
Cause I've been there more than once.
I don't want that for you.
Now, one of the things though, that's
going to get in the way is you.
Dealing with imposter syndrome or more
like letting it get a hold of you now
Imposter syndrome was first introduced in
1978 by these two psychologists Pauline
Clance and Suzanne Iams or Ames, I believe
and so it was pretty much a framework
a way to understand the experience that
high achieving women Were experiencing and
feeling that they were feeling like frauds
despite all the accolades despite all the
achievements That they had experienced now
the reason why I don't I think it's great
that it helps provide an understanding.
Like there's power in names.
There's power in naming things like,
Oh, I'm feeling like an imposter
syndrome when it comes to, I'm feeling
like an imposter when it comes to, I
mean, hell, even, um, me putting out
this podcast episode, like, I don't
know, girl, you picked election day.
Like everybody's going to ramp, ramped
up, thinking about other things.
Like, no, no, no, no.
That's self doubt.
Let's like, let's really
name it what it is.
It's me, myself doubt.
And so the reason why i'm having a
problem and I talk amongst other service
providers and other folks and I know a
lot of therapists that like also overuse
and abuse this term too and my clients
they know I don't I don't play that we're
unpacking that and getting it getting
down to the root of how it manifested
it is an expression it is a symptom but
it is not the root of the problem and
one of the One of the tricky things and
the risks of overusing the word is that
I see it Slow down and almost I don't
want to say be like a crutch But there's
like this learned helplessness almost
that comes with using the word imposter
syndrome Like people are out here using
it like an allergy like oh, I'm just
allergic to peanuts like oh I just deal
with imposter syndrome And it's like,
so are we gonna fucking stay there?
Because you don't have to.
You don't have to.
And so another issue that I have with
the term is that it is not I am not fully
explaining and speaking to the experience
of people that have been marginalized,
of people that have been traumatized.
Of course, I am going to feel like an
imposter as a daughter of immigrants.
I'm thicker.
I'm more round.
I have, my bone structure
is made up different.
I'm the first one that graduated college.
Um, graduated high school and,
you know, wasn't pregnant.
Um, the first one to have, uh, a business,
if you will, or be able to, like, have
a successful business, if you will,
in the sense that it could support me.
So, of course I'm going to
feel like I'm an imposter.
When That has not been modeled.
I have not seen that.
There has been no representation
on media that portrays that.
If on media, people that look
like me are always the help.
They're the cleaning lady
with the accent, a cook.
There's always like a joke or
something to that effect or a nanny.
So there have been systems in place set
up, AKA racism, AKA white supremacy,
That yeah, make me feel that and so when
I really break that down Then we work
on How can you develop more confidence?
How can you develop assertive?
How can you see yourself in a good
light despite it not being around you?
And so by normalizing the word So much.
I just see it really slowing down people's
progress to actually get to the root of
it Maybe it's also because of the messages
you heard in your community or in your
family And so on my social media, I posted
a visual of this model that really speaks
to how things impact us over time based
on our community Our family and society
at large and I'll go ahead and link it
below for reference Um another thing too
Um, you know being that I consider myself
like a christian bruja um And I believe
in spiritual warfare I believe that we
all have purpose and I also believe that
it is the enemy's Tactic Of having you
doubt yourself Doubt your identity If you
doubt yourself and you doubt your gifts
and you doubt your identity At that point
you will paralyze yourself From pursuing
your purpose from fully operating in your
gifts and putting what you're meant to
do out into the world And from a chakra
standpoint, from an energetic standpoint,
I connect this the most with the solar
plexus, which is the seat of our power,
willpower, self esteem, identity, self
concept, And so, this is also why I firmly
believe that working on your identity
and self worth is so key and that's why
it's one of the pillars of self love.
And so, often times, it's important
to really think, is this imposter
syndrome or am I just not confident?
Am I just not confident because
I was told I would never do this.
It was never seen Or I have past
wounds that I haven't yet overcome
And if that's the case, I want you to
know that Your experience is valid.
Your emotions are valid and Don't just
stay there and settle with the idea
that this is just something that like
You have to deal with Because it's not.
It really is not.
And so, I want to challenge you.
If you are experiencing imposter
syndrome, I want you to take a moment
and pause and think about, like, what
areas of my life does this show up in?
Does it show up in, I
don't know, my parenting?
Does it show up, um, at my job?
Or my, uh, um, Wanting to make more money,
my confidence in asking for more money.
Like, I just want you to really
pause and think about where
does this self doubt show up?
And what's the story that
you're telling yourself?
And consider exploring, like, where,
where did this originate from?
We all have stories that we tell
ourselves, and that's okay, but it's
important to Yes take in if if the word
resonates for you and helps validate
your experience great, but then go beyond
that And so I am so excited because
this is one of the things that I am
Very much doing and have woven into the
program using my reclaimed method after
years of doing one on one consulting
and like SWOT sessions with therapists
and also with Working with other service
based providers and high achievers.
This is part of the What we go
through in our mentorship program
Again, the doors are officially open
I want to invite you and I really
just want you to know that You
Whatever it is that you want
to put out there in the world.
Yes, there have been systemic
things put in place that have
placed us at a disadvantage.
But don't let the term
and what you're seeing.
Don't let that just be now, uh,
a sentence like a condition.
It is a state.
It is just a state right now,
but it does not have to be.
A condition that you have to deal with
for the rest of your life To a certain
extent there's going to be levels of
like doubt that you're going to deal
with that We are as we up level if you
will that we're going to have to work
through But we don't have to stay there
And I don't want you to stay there Which
is why I made this episode and I sure
as hell don't want my therapists and
healers to stay there Which is why i'm
so passionate about this program You
It really was created in mind with, you
know, the one that is busy, that maybe
overthinks, that is in their head and
wants freedom, but doesn't also yet know
how to have a free relationship with their
business, um, versus being in survival.
If it's one thing that I have learned
is nothing has stretched my faith like
having a business and nothing has exposed
my Insecurities my vulnerabilities and
invited me to fully love myself Like
having a business it was truly a mirror
an invitation into doing serious shadow
work And so i'm also taking years and
sharing what i've learned from folks
that i've worked with too And creating
this space just for the therapists
where they can share with one another.
I know that you're not alone.
Also nervous system regulation,
co regulation, but also having
these reparative and healthy
relationships in our field.
Especially right now.
We don't know how things are
going to play out, but regardless.
we have been holding
space for other people.
And this is the time and the space for you
to be held, for you to be deeply witnessed
and supported and guided and bring your
whole self and bring your questions.
And most importantly, bring
your vision and dreams.
Cause that's what I'm here to hold
space for and to help you get there.
So thank you so much for your time.
Let me know any thoughts
or questions that you have.
Drop them below.
I Like the way that spotify is set up
where people can post stuff in there.
I will be looking I will be reading
Thank you so much for your time Until
next time venceremos we shall overcome
